  • About the Role: 

As a Sous Chef, you will be the right hand to our Head Chef, assisting in all aspects of kitchen operations. Your role involves supervising kitchen staff, ensuring the quality and consistency of dishes, and contributing to menu development.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, ensuring all culinary activities align with the restaurant’s standards and goals.
  • Oversee the daily work of kitchen staff, including line cooks and prep cooks, providing guidance and ensuring they adhere to recipes, standards, and procedures.
  • Monitor the quality of dishes before they reach the customer, ensuring consistency, proper presentation, and compliance with the restaurant’s quality standards.
  • Manage kitchen inventory, order supplies, and ensure that ingredients are fresh and properly stored. Maintain accurate inventory records and monitor stock levels to prevent shortages or excesses.
  • Assist in managing food costs by monitoring portion sizes, minimising waste, and optimising resource use. Help create budget-friendly menus without compromising quality.

Requirements:

  • Obtain a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Sous Chef
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to supervise, train, and motivate kitchen staff.
  • Good communication skills to effectively coordinate with kitchen and front-of-house staff.

 

Applicants who need sponsorship must meet the following criteria, in addition to the previously mentioned requirements:

  • Possession of a valid English language certificate is mandatory, with a minimum overall score of 5.5 and no individual component scoring below 5.0 in the IELTS test
  • Successful completion of a Skill Assessment from the appropriate Australian skill assessing authorities (TRA or VETASSESS) may be necessary, contingent on your passport or the location of your placement.
